Ferndale Low Traffic Neighbourhood Newsletter 23.04.21

Dear Residents,

This is an update from the Low Traffic Neighbourhood team at Lambeth Council.

Works began in Ferndale Low Traffic Neighbourhood on the 14th of April to implement the changes being made to the scheme in response to the Stage 1 monitoring review. The changes include new filters on the Dalyell Road junction with Combermere Road, a new filter on Ferndale Road, and a one-way only restriction for southbound vehicles on Shannon Grove alongside changes to the filter on Pulross Road.

Following feedback, the Pulross Road filter visual has been updated to show the direction which traffic can travel.

• Motor vehicles can travel towards Brixton to the east and Clapham to the west if driving southbound on Dalyell Road.

• The restrictions apply to vehicles on Pulross Road which are heading towards Dalyell Road only.

Please note that to start with warning notices will be issued instead of penalty charge notices to ensure motorists have time to adjust to the new road layout. In this adjustment period warning notices will be sent out instead of penalty charges.

More information and all detailed drawings of the changes can be found on Lambeth’s website here.

The Community Street Design Officers visited Ferndale businesses on the 13th of April to ensure they were up to date with the upcoming road changes and to listen to their feedback. All businesses were invited to a Q&A session to further discuss any questions.

Question and Answer Sessions:

The Low Traffic Neighbourhood Team held the first round of Q&As sessions for the Ferndale LTN this week. There were 4 separate events for each of the changes that that are taking place in the area. Recordings of each of these events and written summary will be available to view on the Ferndale Commonplace here.

The next Ferndale LTN Q&A session will be held on the 27th of May.

If you would like to register for this event, please send your name, your address and question to: lowtrafficneighbourhoods@lambeth.gov.uk using ‘Ferndale Q and A’ in the subject line. We will keep you updated on further details of the location / format which will be in line with covid restrictions.

If the scheme is meeting its objectives, a public consultation will follow later this year during which we will proactively gather views on the changes, to be considered alongside objective data collected before a decision is taken on the future of the scheme.

Your streets, your way:

We are incredibly excited with the response to our first design competition ‘Your streets, your way’.

The deadline was Monday 19th April and we are currently collating all the entries ready for judging. We look forward to updating you on the winners and sharing the fantastic designs we have received.

Over the borough: 20mph Banners

In April 2016, the speed limit on Lambeth's roads was reduced to 20mph. In March 2021, new and colourful banners were introduced across the borough to continue to remind drivers to monitor their speed.

Installed at over 150 sites across Lambeth, these banners provide a strong visual impact, raising awareness and reminding drivers that the speed limit of 20mph is the law.

Pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists make up 80% of serious and fatal collisions on the road.

Reducing vehicle speeds is therefore essential; helping to improve pedestrian safety, encourage confidence amongst cyclists, reduce the likelihood of collisions and create safer environments outside of our schools.

Look out for these new banners around the borough!
