Statutory Consultation for Proposed Improvements to Ferndale LTN

We are proposing changes to improve the Ferndale Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) scheme. These improvements aim to distribute traffic more evenly within the LTN.

Background:

Since the LTN was made permanent in August 2022, we have continued to monitor the performance of the road network as part of the Council’s ongoing monitoring strategy. Officers have also been working with the local community to identify opportunities to improve Ferndale LTN.

Traffic counts carried out in both October 2020 and November 2021 indicated there had been an increase in vehicles on Ferndale Road (West). This is likely because most traffic entering the southern half of the Ferndale LTN accesses via Ferndale Road (West). This increase in traffic has been supported by feedback received from residents who shared details on how this was impacting their lives.

Proposals:

To alleviate pressure on Ferndale Road and reduce the number of vehicles accessing the LTN via Ferndale Road (West), we are proposing the following changes;

  • Removal of the existing modal filter on Concanon Road.
  • An additional modal filter on Santley Street between Ducie Street and Concanon Road.
  • An additional modal filter on Ferndale Road between Ducie Street and Medwin Street.
  • The map below provides an overview of the Ferndale LTN configuration with the proposed additional filters in place.

    The rationale for these proposals is to distribute traffic more evenly within the LTN by providing additional access routes to the southern part of Ferndale LTN. With the location of the additional filter on Santley Street, access to the south-east section of the LTN will provided via Concanon Road.

    The Council is now carrying out a statutory consultation to introduce the two additional modal filters in Ferndale LTN. To view a copy of the decision report, and detailed plans of the proposals please visit our website https://moderngov.lambeth.gov.uk/ieDecisionDetails.aspx?ID=8361.

    How can I give my views?

  • A Notice of the Council’s intentions to introduce these measures will be published in a local newspaper (South London Press), the London Gazette and on the Council website.

A copy of the Orders and the other documents are also available on request, by email to: Trafficorders@lambeth.gov.uk or by telephoning 020 7926 0209 to arrange an inspection.
